4 CCCC took the gamble and headed down to the the H.A.R.T Crit Circuit @St Ives.

The gamble paid off with the on-again/off-again weather leaning towards the latter for the majority of the 30min +2 Combine crit.

The Cirt track is amazing. Best race circuit i have ever raced on. Only short (1.2km) but has everything.

The recruitment drive is now on, lets aim at getting 7-9 CCCC members down there next week.

- Meet at Kariong at 5pm.
- more transport details to follow.

A report from week one:

We turned up at the HART training facility, in the slight drizzle, greeted by surprised Peloton-Turramurra Cyclery-Everyone has a freaking Pinarello clad guys erecting the sign on gazebo. Rubicon was there already, smiling as always, first time i'd seen him smiling when it was raining but anyway...

Mark Felton soon pulled in to make it 4 CCCC riders (3 in Orange, I was incognito), and about 9 or 10 Peloton riders. They all entered B grade en mass. To leave one A-Grader - 'csfive' and one C grader - Rubicon.

We were all combined and started at about 6:30, which was early or late, depending who you talked to.

The pace was on fairly quickly with the locals obviously knowing how to ride the undulating, tight course pretty fast. Two laps passed and the field had strung out with gaps starting to appear. When 'csfive' went to the front and turned on the pace, a group of four leaders was formed with 2 locals and myself. I was soon dropped after some less-than-ideal gear selections and as that happened, a rider from the abyss emerged and bridged up to the remaining front three.

'csfive' kept the pace on, eventually dropping everyone else for a convincing solo victory on the increasingly wet track.

This circuit definitely makes pain fun, very technical, no traffic, flowing corners, undulating terrain, trees either side and a slightly downhill finish. Definitely seems to favour a solo breakaway rather than a bunch gallop.

Look forward to seeing everyone down there next week, contrary to popular belief, the Turramurra guys are quite friendly and appreciative of the effort to support there racing, didn't see anyone manage a wave or a nod though, maybe next week?

How good was that course!

It's like a mini 2 lane F1 Grand Prix track. All it needs is braking distance signs!  Roll Eyes

Tight turns, fast straights, hairpins and that 'little' incline that suddenly appears around a blind corner - Wrong gear and you're going backwards!

Definitely back next week!  Hopefully some other C graders will show up  Smiley

Ok, been told I'm reporting on last nights race.

This week we were greeted with better weather ( still windy but no rain ) and quite a few more riders showing up. 5 CCCC riders, myself, Murphs, Mick, J.Moore & Gadget were there to fly the Central Coast flag. I raced C grade which was combined with the two D graders. Murphs & Gadget took on B grade while Mick and Jim tackled A grade. C & D grade was uneventful, and yours truly by the second lap was dreaming of cocktails on a tropical beach, & racing was the last place I wanted to be. Once again, ( I can still hear Murphs saying "get off the front") I was up the front driving the group into the wind. By the 20 minute mark I had nothing, though the leaders didnt pull away, once you get dropped, its a technical course to chase your way back.

Our race was shortened to only 25mins + 2 so I was able to finish and watch The B graders. Both Gadget and Murphs were in the main group with the final downhill sprint between Murphs and another rider accelerating away from the bunch. Unfortunately, Murphs couldnt bridge the gap, so finished a metre behind the winner who was, as Murphs said "stupidly strong!"

Then it was high drama in the A Grade. Mickie was already being targetted after his breakaway win last week and beforehand, quite a few riders came over and asked WHO he was. One even wanted advice how to tackle the Curran phenomenon!  Like I would know! I suggested "pushing him off his bike" may work, which was met with a rather concerned look!

5 laps to go its Breakaway Mick, another rider and Jim off the front. Those three are looking very strong. Suddenly, Mick's off his bike, a dropped chain meant Mick could sit out a lap and rejoin. Once he was back on again, the racing was on  and it was very very fast for the final laps.

The three, still out front get the bell and its a long wait to see who will appear around the bend. 100m from the line its Mick sitting on the other riders wheel & Jim just off the pace. With about 25m, Mick pulls out and wins by half a wheel. You could just hear a collective 'sigh' from the Turramurra boys and officials, as Mick wins his second.  2 out of 2....Hat trick next week Mick?

The wednesday night crit is a great night and looking to being quite popular once this weather warms up.

The night had an international flavour with three placegetters from overseas. 2 from Netherlands and one from NZ.

So another great night was had by all.

My night, after a poor performance  only got worse or better depending on who you asked.

Stopping at St Ives shop for a bite to eat, some young punk walks up to his girlfriend and literally king hits her. Drags her up the street and starts laying into her in the bushes.  Angry

Yours truly thinking "this is all he needs" drives  and pulls up "Starsky and Hutch style" (old cop show for all you young folk out there) and steps in. It must have been fate that made me decide to change back into my jeans after the race. Bouncing out of the car in knicks and a bright orange jersey may not have had the same, desired tough man effect! After a little tussle and trolley throwing, the police arrive (thankgod because I was running out of pseudo kung Fu moves).  Grin

On a serious note, it was amazing how many people just walked on by and turned a blind eye. No one even stopped considering my car was blocking a whole lane and the tussle was on the footpath.  Undecided

Anyway, by the time the police took my details, it was nearly 11pm by the time I got home!

Hoping to see some more CCCC riders, its a great night and the Turramurra boys are really trying to make it a friendly, popular event mid-week.

If i got the details from the other grades wrong, feel free to correct it!

off to bed, this mild mannered super hero needs his beauty sleep  ... and lots of it   Grin
