Hello!

We are a group of 8 racing cyclists, both male and female of ages 18-28, who have booked to come from the UK from 18th Jan to 25th March (9.5weeks) to avoid the british weather! just got back off the bike and its -1degrees Sad
We have searched all around sydney, and have found what we think an ideal place to stay (The Entrance) finding a house to rent.
Just a little advice and help please... are there training rides and races that we would be able to fit in with?
We will be looking to ride roughly 120km on our training days at a steady pace (28-30kmh), however we will fit in with whatever is happening!
Any help and advice anyone is able to offer will be very much appreciated!
Thanks,

Matt

Welcome,

It will be great to have you.

Ill start the ball rolling (im sure more posts will be added)

* Coffee rides leave West Gosford Shops (WGS) 7am on Saturdays and end up swinging back through WGS at 8 then for coffee at terrigal at 8.30am. This sounds ideal for you.

* Each sunday that time of year we alternate between club race, long "Stumpy" ride (usually leaving Terrigal) and ride/race in Sydney.

There are more but got to fly to one of the above, ill be in contact, please email me direct if you need any answers re: rides/races/directions or if I can help with whatever you want from this end cycling related or house/travel related.

As the date gets closer I will get your number and make your stay an easy one.

Speak soon,

Mick Curran
(Club Captain)

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the reply!
All sounds good Smiley
Ill keep in touch.

Is the entrance a suitable place to stay for bike riders?
We are counting down the days till we fly!

Hi Matt,

The Entrance is a great spot to stay for cycling, Wilfred Barret Drive which leads into The Entrance is one of the better roads on the coast for training.

The Entrance probably gives you the best access to northern and southern training rides with anything from 70-150km+ and of varying terrain readily available.

Terrigal is the other popular option for most tourists and that's where alot of our social/training rides start/finish.

Cheers,

Chris

The Entrance would be a good spot as you can train and race at both Central coast and Newcastle areas, and your still not that far from Sydney.

There is a forum for the Newcastle area that has the all the local racing information posted you can access it here.

You might want to mark the loop the lake down in your calendar, as it is one of the largest group rides you could go on.

Hi Matt,

I'm one of the group of cyclists who live about 15km north of the entrance. On most weeks there is a northern bunch of riders who meet up with the southern group for longer regular rides.

Also, there are a few of us (3 to 4), who go riding throughout the week in the late afternoon through the entrance and do about 60km, however this will most likely increase as the road season become closer.

The Entrance is a great spot for you to base yourselves and is going to be cheaper then Terrigal as well.

Look forward to having you all over here.

Hey once again. I'm assuming that you all arrived here safely at some stage yesterday?

Not sure if you have access to the internet at your house but thought Id try starting some conversation about possible training rides that your group may be doing?

Once you are all settled in then perhaps you could post some info about what days and time you plan on training (if you dont mind a few extra riders) so the training riders in the club could orgainse some rides around your group.

I just met the guys this morning as they were climbing Kariong Hill. Took them for a lap of the Calga, Somersby, West Gosford then up to the Crit circuit where they headed back to The Entrance and I crawled home. Must of been atleast 120kms by the time they got back.

Their plan was to join the coffee ride tomorrow to meet everyone.

Edit: By the way they are very strong!

More news for Dani King.

Last night she was part of the winning GB Teams Pursuit squad at the Track Worlds.

Awesome effort!
