Cross knocks 40 minutes off her 110km road race time
sportGeneral15 Apr 10 @ 08:20pm by EMMA HERD

CENTRAL Coast Cycling Club’s Yoni Cross heads into next month’s state titles in fine form after taking out the 110km Blaney to Bathurst road race.

Cross, of East Gosford, completed Sunday’s event in three hours and two minutes, beating all women’s competitors, including NSW road champion India McLean, who is 10 years her junior. The result showed Cross how far she’d come in 12 months, after knocking 40 minutes off her 2009 time.

“I did it last year but was underprepared,” Cross said. “But this is pretty amazing.”

The weather made the race all the more difficult, with rain at the start, before the skies cleared by the finish. Cross paid tribute to her clubmate Mark Stapleton, whose support she said was instrumental in her win. It was a successful couple of days for Stapleton, who won a state silver medal in the hillclimb at Mount Panorama on Saturday, before playing a key role in Cross’ win.

It was a busy weekend for a large contingent of Central Coast Cycling Club members, with several successes.

In Saturday’s criterium racing at Mountt Panorama, Kane Kennett finished fifth from 60 starters in his division.

Junior divisions were won by Damon Marshall, Brianna Hunt and Matt Baker.

hard luck story 4 the weekend was kodie.after a good result in the hillclimb & a good ride in the crit. Kodie lined up the next morning with Peiden & Stuart feeling good.Rolled out at a comfortable pace & was staying with leading bunch over the first few rolling hills. But at the11k mark his chain snapped.fortunately commie dad was a few minutes behind & picked him up &he watched the rest of the ride in a nice warm car.  :'(

Here is some trivia - I was at a business conference the last two days and got chatting to a guy from Bathurst. Turns out he was the B to B registrar this year and is no other than Mark Renshaw's uncle!

Everyone in Bathurst claims they are related to or have slept with mark Renshaw. Just like everyone on the Central Coast claims to be related to Julie Goodwin.

Have you ever seen Julie Goodwin and myself at the same time?
