Is anyone going this year? If so which distance? +Is it too dangerous with slow, fast and or eratic riders?

Yes, am entered already in the 50km distance but may change to 85km between now and then. I've never been on the ride before so I'll be keen to read more comments.

we will be entering again this year. Kylie will be doing the full lap and I will being the 50km with James (9y/o). From past experience it is best to stay away from the larger bunches for safety reasons- previous years have seen a fairly good CCCC contingent meet at the start and ride together which offers 'safety in numbers'- I think this would be the best option.

When is this one on Simon... I wouldn't mind doing the 50 with my son if I'm not working, and there is no basketball on.

Sun 14th March, so in about 10 days! I would be doing this, but at the risk of sounding like Jason I have now got a gig on the Saturday night so I won't be going. The idea of riding 90 odd kms after 3 or 4 hours sleep sounds like a recipe for disaster. I would become one of those erratic riders everyone is talking about.

yeah as soon as a posted it I realised that is probably the norm for some people. But I tend to make pretty bad judgements when I am half asleep and I would probably end up costing other people a lot of money.
Maybe I will htfu (FLA) and just do it.

Back on topic,
I considered doing the Loop the Lake but from all reports it just sounds like there is too many varying degrees of skill and speed, not really worth the safety risk for most of us here whom 85km is not a huge milestone.

Valid point Murphs - but it is in aid of a worthwhile cause i.e. John Hunter Childrens Hospital - I think?? From my own past experience (which included waiting for 1 hour + for / with ambulance and White attending Duff) I'd suggest the best approach is pre-register, get there well before the official start time and get up the road before too many hubbards do. Or do your own 85k's close to home and send a donation.
