Another flat at the crits grrrrrrrrr  New gatorskins on bike now - thanks Chicken. Went for a 20km ride on them this morning and so far so good. They feel a lot smoother and handle the bumps better than the old Conti Grand Prix / Gatorskin combo that was on the bike.

Thought this was pretty interesting considering all the discussion on tyre pressures a few weeks ago. Taken from a Cyclingnews article today:
Interestingly, Armstrong also chose to run his familiar Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 carbon tubular wheels instead of the aluminum box-section wheels used by his teammates but wrapped around them were the standard-issue 24mm-wide Hutchinson tubulars. Drenchingly wet conditions prior to the start prompted comparatively low 87/90psi front/rear inflation pressures for better traction on the wet cobbles but improving weather may have prompted a change later on.

I would like to see a photo that compares the tabloid pics of Armstrong's bike with the ride he actually uses.
Look at how far the brake pads are down the calipers. That setup is built for 28mm standards or 25mm pave elipticals. There's no way he'll be running 24mm Hutchi crud at 90psi except for the warmup on the rollers.

He just did that to pixth me off.  Check out the deformation on the rear tyre (use the zoom Luke). He's getting plenty of grip, but running mighty close to pinch flatting too.

Incidentally, I still haven't had one flat since I stopped riding along the Tuggerah Straight cycleway and since I swapped the old and worn out Conti Gatorskin/Grand Prix combo for some new Gatorskins front and rear.
I'm thinking it was a combination of the age of the tyres and the glass on Tuggerah Straight plus some bad luck to boot.

I'm going to believe this - anyone who hasn't punctured for a year must be worth listening to  Well I haven't punctured in the last 6 months, so does that mean that Lance should listen to half the crap that I go on with? 25mm pave elipticals sounded kinda believable in some Hans Christian Anderson sort of way...

FWIW, Over 5000km of races and training so far in Holland and only just had my first flat on the weekend. I can count on one hand the pieces of glass i have seen. Thanks to Continental for the GP 4000's

Thanks to Continental for the GP 4000's  Got to be just my luck Mick.. either that or I'm moving to Holland  I've destroyed 3 Conti GP400's in about 500km  Each time I think "never buying another one"...then end up taking the easy option....3rd one was the final straw and now on Michelin Carbons....currently only managed to kill one of the those  Now Veloflex Masters on the track bike are a different story... very nice
