Tough race introduction to A grade at Beauie for me yesterday. It certainly was on from the start - the first few laps were damn hard.

Someone mentioned that the average speed was 45km/h during the race but that's incorrect going by my computer which gave an average of 41.57km/h, which is still tough considering we rolled to an almost complete stop twice every lap. As a comparison, the average for Friday's crit at Wyong was 41.13km/h.

I was surprised when I compared average power for both races, Wyong had a higher average but Beauie felt a lot harder yesterday - again, due to the hotdog circuit I'm assuming. More peaks and troughs in the Beauie race but more constant power in the Wyoing race.

Attached are the power files and stats from each race if you are interested.

Thanks Andy for the Data  Smiley

Question? : Max cadence is the same on both , is that a glitch/interferance or if true at what point were you at 173bpm
Once only ?  Only asking because the cadence line isn't shown on the data and I was curious.

The difference between A grade and B grade at Beauie varies quite a lot depending on which of the local hotshots is in town.

B grade is always a pretty lazy type of race with long drags but no leg snapping stuff.  A grade can be the same (once the race settles into a groove) if there's no local talent around, but if there is then they usually like to smash it hard with sprint after sprint until the group fractures.  There's no place for pretenders to hide (speaking from experience!) when A grade is in that mood.  Fun though.

I had a look at the Beauie race and it seems the 173rpm is a spike and probably not correct. After a closer look, the max I can see is around 145-150rpm which came in the last part of the race - more than likely when the bunch split and the break was made. I remember pedalling my butt off around that time.

I left the cadence line off because the chart was getting too busy for a small image. The average is pretty low too - because of the hotdog circuit. Average cadence when up to speed was over 100rpm and usually no higher that 120rpm.

Don't normally see them on the Power Tap - it usually just goes stupid when it doesn't work (no subtle spikes).

I was just thinking that 173rpm is as fast as Andy can pedal....but what about the obvious power spike of over 1000w?
 Shocked
