Now that that other minor event in France is over, is anyone brave enough to suggest dates for the Big One?  We're trying to plan the family holiday around it and accomodation is going to be an issue with 4 kids and 1 dog.

Some discussion tonite at Track racing re this Tour De Snowy 2011 approaching.
An idea was suggested that instead of heading South we head North to Port Macquarie instead. Sounded like a good idea and we could do the TDS next time around.
1-4/01/2011 seems the best date.
Please post your thoughts here so we can get the ball rolling on venue, date etc. Opportunity to bring family etc?Huh?

Don't know that we will be going south or north this year but here's just a few things to consider about Port Mac early January.

Will be extremely busy so accommodation may be difficult to get and/or expensive.

The roads throughout the area will also have plenty of (non cycling tolerant) traffic with the possible exception of the road course (part of old Pacific Hwy which is maybe 20 Km long?) and unlike the snowy mtns you will get glass/punctures.

At a quieter time of the year it would be a great location.

Whitey after talking to you last night at track about this, I went away and thought about it.  What I found was that I came up with the same concerns that Darryl has raised.

At the end of the day for that time of year, you will really find Jindy hard to beat for great rides, cost, and convenience.

Think anywhere Coastal during summer holidays will be crazy. The recent ride around the Hunter I did was great. Out towards Singleton there were some great quiet country roads for 100km turnaround rides...the hills werent massive but we did ride to the base of the mountains and Im sure you could find a mountain or two to conquer.

Plenty of things to do....ie wine, wine and more wine  Smiley
