Okay, it seems like we have enough interest in starting a regular 'Northern' coffee ride on a saturday (during summer).
I'll get the ball rolling with a few ideas that i have come up with-

Start/meeting point at Tuggerah McDonalds 7am
Head down Wyong Rd turn left onto CC Hwy at Shelley Beach roundabout, head north to Budgewoi turning right at roundabout to head through national park, left onto Pcfc Hwy and follow all the way south to Tuggerah. This loop would also give people the option of taking a shorter route through Toukley if time or distance was a problem and the national park could also be left out to bring the bunch onto the Pcfc Hwy at Munmorah if necessary.
This loop will give us a flat ride with enough km's to make it interesting but also allow people to be home at a decent hour.

We could also explore 2 start/meeting points (as with the Terrigal and WGS on the current coffee ride) that might see a group meet at Shelley Beach roundabout or The Entrance (leave Tuggerah at 6.30 and pick up 2nd group at 7)

If we want to have a few 'trial runs' I can make next weekend and the one after then I have a few weekends away with the  kids' track racing.

Sooooooooo let the feedback/better ideas begin!

Hi. My 1st post on this forum. I'm a novice solo rider wanting to meet new people and get some bunch riding experience. I often ride this route on weekends starting from Wadalba, as well as regular rides up to Swansea. As long as I can keep up I'm interested.

Hi CJ,

These Sat morning Coffee rides are there for newbies and novices to come and just cruise along. Even if you did get dropped they would wait for you... They are not there to do a smashfest...

Very casual ride and goo bunch of blokes. Simon will look after you.. just make sure if there is a sprint on keep an eye on him.. very sly;)

Simon,

I would be keen to join this maybe every 2nd week if you get a regular ride happening. Your proposed route takes in part of one of my favourite rides through the Lake Munmorah National Park & back to Terrigal. It's an 82km round trip for me, so a bit more than our coffee ride. Count me in for the inaugral ride to meet you at Shelley Beach roundabout.

Very importantly though, where do we stop for coffee?  Wink

Hi Chris, what Patto says is exactly right (ignore the sprint part... Wink) the coffee ride is exactly that- a coffee ride. These are more of a social way to get the pedals around for a couple of hours. Some people will do some extra kms before or after if they need a harder work out.
I am at Hamlyn Terrace so I will pm you my mobile number.
You may like to drop down to the crits (1st race is today at 6.15pm) to meet a few of us and see if you would be interested in racing at some stage. The races are in the Nth Wyong industrial area on Lucca Rd (opposite the golf course).
Stay tuned to the forum for confirmation of ride time and details.

Great to hear Col, will be nice to have someone along that I can get a half decent draft off..... Wink
I think the best place for coffee geographically speaking would be at Tuggerah Maccas- I think it will be the most central point for the majority of us Northies and close enough for any Southies who want to come along on our ride. Therefore it will be at the end of the ride for most.
The coffee won't be of the highest standard but it's still coffee!

if you wanted to do the loop backwards you could always do coffee at the entrance?

Always on option- I do find that doing the lap anticlockwise can be a bit more difficult with crossing traffic when turning right all the time, especially for the newer riders.

This sounds like a great idea. I would be keen to join this ride when work permits. I have not raced with the club for quite a while now, mostly due to lack of fitness and other commitments. This may just be the thing I need. I'm at Charmy not too far from you Simon.

I'm in. Not for the next two weekends but after that I'll be home for good. Project in Perth is finishing up next Friday Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I've also got some great ideas on how we can drum up the numbers and in turn get more membership for CCCC. Stolen from a certain cycling club in Perth, of course  Grin  More on that when I get back.

A northern coffee ride sounds like a good idea. I'm at Glenning Valley and enjoy the ride up through the park. I would certainly be interested but would probably mix it up though.. one week north, next week south.

just a word of warning for any newbs out there:

Simon has made ahabit of doing the G2I CycloSportif each year since its inception.  This Northern coffe ride could mutate into Simon's Wonderworld of Hills around December/January Cheesy
