Another great morning's elevated heart rate & company.

Thanks to all involved & especially our committed Club Captain & all round good guy for making these possible.

Not me, I just watched the lads come round the last bend neck and neck - looked like a good old match race was planned for the finish and it was way to close to call from the corner.

It's been too long............... So, the next instalment of the Sunday Morning Mystery Crits details are as follows:

Where: Lucca Rd, Nth Wyong.
When: Sunday January 29
Time: Sign-on. 7.45am. Race at 8am
What: You'll never ever know, if you never ever go.

FREE ENTRY!!

Possible race formats:

Race formats may look something like this:  (but are not limited to the following) 

- A,B,C combine mass start - A-16laps, B-14laps, C-12laps. Separate grade winners.
- "Devils Race" - 12lap Crit, after 12 laps top 5 then ride a Missin' Out to eventually winner is left.
- 3 race Omnium - 1 lap TT, Devils Race, Scratch Race. (run per grade)
- Point a lap - 1st across line each lap gets a point. Rider with most points at end wins.
- Points race - 3,2,1 Points for 1st, 2nd & 3rd every 3 laps.
- Derny Races - Each individual riders has a 'motor bike' lead rider. (a rider stronger than them they have to stay with)
- Teams races - 1 rider from each grade makes team.
- Mystery lapper - drawn from a deck of cards, riders don't know how many laps race is until there is 1 to go.
- Pairs "lead out race" - 'A' riders team up with 'B' riders and protect/help 'B' riders win race. (also run with C/D combo)
- Group H'Cap - Start at predetermined time gaps in ability groups.
- Individual H'Cap - start at predetermined time gaps one at a time.


** Bunches usually meet at these locations to ride to race:

Bunch 1 - Stumpy's Bunch: Meet 6.55am @ Terrigal pub. Leave 7am.
Bunch 2 - Gossy Crew: Meet 6.55am @ West Gosford Shops (WGS). Leave 7am.
Bunch 3 - Park Tuggerah McDonalds, Meet above bunches when they come past Tuggerah circa 7.35am.

The best bit of the day is the post race debrief/coffee at Tuggerah Maccas.

40 riders arrived at Lucca Rd this morning and were pleased to see the course set up, the drains were unblocked and the rains had finally cleared long enough to get some racing in.

Today's mystery was unveiled to the Div 1 and Div 2 riders who were pleased to hear that their free entry would get them twice the value: Round 1 - A mystery lapper and Round 2 - a group handicap.

Round 1: Mystery Lapper. (Greggy will report on this one)

Round 2: Group Handicap.

6 groups of 6-8 riders were released in waves, aiming to stay away or catch, over the 8 laps. Group 6 rolled out first and were quickly joined by groups 4 & 5. It was obvious the pace was high because there were riders pulling out more frequently than Sunday drivers pull out of church car parks without looking. Meanwhile, Group 1 swept up group 2 and rode past them at a pace allowing them to get on the 'Group 1 train' and form a super group.

It came down to two bunches; one made up of Group 1,2&3 riders and one made up from Groups 4,5&6. It was handicapping to perfection. When the bell rung for the final lap, the merged 4, 5 & 6 Group, lead by Stappo, had a lead of 8-10sec. The merged 1,2 & 3 Group had timed their race to perfection catching the leaders in the back straight. There was a big wind-up that launched Greggy 'I'm Back and I'll Tell Ya' Moeller to the win.

firstly lets get one thing out of the way.

i am back! and i am now going to tell you because i feel it is way more important than the actual race report.

this is not just a big g up about myself(but it might be) as i know that "loss of fitness" related depression, can, has, and will affect us all!

be positive and dont ever let bad form get the better of you because it wont take long till you wake up and find road maps printed on massive, clean shaven beef chunks where your old weak thighs used to be.

this is the only way i could describe what i saw upon squeezing into the lycra this morning. i can only hope that yours look like mine... hence... i am back!!!!!

oh shit, the race report...

race 1 :

this was a very hurtful race!

everyone was getting in and attacking in an attempt to enter a quick little breakaway  and get a lucky 8th lap finish.... or 9th.... or 10th.

so we tried... and we werent getting any luck! it may have had something to do with the bell holder chuckling at our displays of how "perfectly guaged 1 lap efforts" can go horribly wrong! haha

so when the bell lap finally came, it was on straight away. EPO Al tried to have a dig but we were straight onto that.

then a tiny drop in speed and a few head turns saw Andy "Go again" Hellmich take one last flyer.

alarm bells began to ring when i saw that he was not looking back.

it looked like he was going to take it out, but some loser in a green and blue kit attacked from half way down the bunch and took everyone by surprise... particularly me who was driving on the front, vainly admiring  Schwartzaneggers legs that were clearly pedaling my bike.

As Mick sailed past a rapidly fatiguing Andy, a super keen "Scotty sleeve tat" drove it up the hill and i was able to come off his wheel and pick up the scraps of Andy after his final attempt had fallen juuuuust short. (it was awesome though)

im not too sure who picked up 3rd as my exhaustion level temporarily removed my ability to see.

Another solid bunch rode to/from Lucca Rd this morning to be greeted by sunny skies and 2 races for the price of none.

Race 1: Teams event with prime halfway through.
Race 2: Miss 'n Out combine.

Too tied for race reports. Greggy wasn't there anyway so nothing exciting happened. Al might want to add some spice to my post with a detailed report?
