Hey Jock,

The CD website    http://centraldivision.110mb.com/calendar.html   shows a 4 pm start (not 5pm).

Peiden won't want to miss the 1st event but I'm sure you have a reliable source that could clarify this?

Both items of info were sourced from the same reliable source.

The 5pm time and program posted here were released this morning and I have confirmed that 5pm start is correct.  Track will be open ~4:00pm for warmup (usually motorpaced up there).

The program has shrunk from last year too.  Only 3 events per rider instead of 4, but my guess is that they might be combining a few categories so there might be a chance for a 4th event.

No excuses for missing the CD Track Champs on Saturday afternoon: the weather bureau is predicting a sunny afternoon 25deg with a fresh SE breeze easing to a light Noreaster and 20deg as the sun goes down.

For anyone who hasn't been there before it's a grippy 200m concrete track with banking that is similar to DGV at 42deg.  It's not a particularly fast track, and when the wind is up it can be a bit taxing on the legs. The ride is pretty bumpy so it pays to let the bike move around underneath you.  I like a few pounds less pressure and drop the seat a few mm to help take the harshness out.

One of the key features of Newcastle Velodrome is the way they completely stuffed up the roll-off coming into and out of the banking when they built it.  It's not uncommon for very fast riders to become airborne coming onto the straights when riding above the blue line.  Very entertaining.

The commissaires are usually strict on one rule when you're up there: no crossing the track when a race is on.  It's less than half the length of Adcock, so lap times are in the order of 12-17sec (compared to our 30-45).  Doesn't give them enough time to react if someone crossing the track slips and breaks a fetlock.

They'll have a canteen going, selling the usual stuff like snakes, soft drink and banger sangas.  Bring a seat or blanket for the infield.

See you up there.  Don't forget your orange flavoured lycra armour, licence and AS2063 stickered helmet.

Yeah, Mick Curran DQed and fined in the Scratch Race for sprinting after being lapped in a combined Elite/M1/M2 race.

He and Matthew Johns (KOCC) stayed out of the way and let the Masters 1/2 riders do their thing in an act of sportsmanship.  They got lapped in the process.

When they decided to sprint they'd already been called by the commissaires and a collision with Glen Elton was narrowly avoided (Glen was slowing after completing his race and was oblivious to what was going on behind him), which is why you are not allowed to contest a sprint after being lapped.  We usually don't get those sort of problems at Adcock because it's such a long track.

The main problem was that there were 2 races in one and the rules were not clearly stated before the race commenced.  The lesson to be learned is that every (senior) rider should know the rules as well as the commissaire and ride within those rules regardeless of the conditions.

A protest to CNSW is very likely.

Good to see the pics from the CD Champs. Where was a pic of Mick crossing the line, arms raised. Well done to all those in orange that attended. Nice to see a newbie, Citizen, pick up a medal. Congratulations to all medal winners.
