I decided not to go.  I needed a night off from all things cycling.
I also did my first 50km ride today.  It was down at the track which is a bit easy but still not confident enough to hit the road yet.  So I am sore and tired.
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow (I heard someone say the grand final is tomorrow).

Good on you Louise.. One of the guys I ride with that rarely gets on a bike, whines if he does a 40km ride that he is sore.  Grin

Thanks for honouring me with your online presence Phil.  Grin Grin Grin I am a decisive driver so I will endeavour to approach my riding in a similar way.  Appreciate any tips I can get.

Yes Aleisha, my butt is sore!   Shocked Shocked Shocked Worth it though.  I felt a real sense of acheivement...I know some of the guys will laugh at that!!!  "50km big deal".  Still, for someone who felt like they had a baby just yesterday and hasn't been on a bike since they were a teenager, I feel pretty good about it.

Thanks for the cheering Rosko.   Tongue  Kane will tell you I did whinge a little.  I laid down for a wee 10 minute rest and woke up an hour later!!!!

I laid down for a wee 10 minute rest and woke up an hour later!!!!

Nothing wrong with a good nana nap after a hard ride.  All your training gains are made in recovery.  Wink

Good on you Louise - maybe the next step should be the bike paths at either Gosford to Woy Woy or Chittaway to the Entrance. Great place to learn to deal with all sorts of traffic; bikers, kids, dogs, perdestrians etc. You should be able to rack up a few km's without feeling like you are just doing circles.

Geez Louise... hehehe.. I didn't even read that you did it at the track! Did you get dizzy? You need to get out and admire the scenery, that's why I ride. Oh, and the good company. Oh and the big one... I like dressing up in colourful lycra..   Grin Grin Grin Undecided

Andy and Rosko, the reason I did it on the track is because I only went down for an hour to work on sprints but in warming down I hit 25km and thought I should do 30.  Then I got to 30 and thought, I could do 40 and before I knew it 50!  Probably could have done more but should have taken some more water and a banana.  Lessons learned!
I will take your advice Andy, and do the Woy Woy ride though (when the saddle sores have healed Wink :'(
Hey Rosko, there is no company for me to ride with - unless I join central coast touring club!!  Looks like I will be on my own for a while. Undecided

Hey Louise - if you feel comfortable on a track bike, I reckon Wednesday nights would be a great way to get involved. The whole family is there already and you'll learn plenty of skills quickly as well as build up your fitness.

Before you know it, you'll be on the coffee rides.

You guys are going to seriously need some baby sitters soon.  Grin

For the saddle sores - you are wearing cycling shorts aren't you? If you are there are chamois creams that help prevent the sores and alleviate the friction when riding. I have found a product from the chemist called Bepanthem to be great - get the stuff in a tube (like toothpaste) and apply it where required before riding.

 You must use chamois cream of some sort, I never leave home without it now. I wish someone had introduced it me to it years ago. Really, get some cream, you wont regret it!
 As for riding alone, Im always out on my own, so if you want some company, you can always join me, just PM me when you are going out and if Im available I will see I can give you someone to talk to.

mrs citizen,

i dont think you realise how hard 50km is on the track, mentally and physically.

if it makes you feel better i have never done 50km on the track.

as for the saddle sores, on the track you are in the saddle for the whole ride because there are no hills, so when out on the road you are up and down out of the saddle when there is a little rise in the road or a hill reducing the overall time in the saddle therefore less painful.

what i am saying is, if you can physically and mentally complete 50km on the track you are more than 80% of the way there.

I am wearing chamois nix.  I may have exaggerated the saddle sore thing.. 
Though I must say Andy, the Bepanthem is used for babies too.  They gave me some for Hamish in hospital!!!  It works wonders on babies!
I am keen to get on the track but I want to increase my fitness some more.  At this stage I will be riding with the Junior Girls  Wink  I think next season will be a goer.  We need an M grade (mum grade).

Thanks for the offer Rosko.  Not ready to take you up on it yet though.

we will keep working on your fitness this year so you will be ready for action next season.. Wink
Lets hope we can get more ladies involved so you have some company on those longer rides x
