Still on Saturdays at 7am?  I have a relative of a friend over from Ireland who may want to tag along.  Cheers.

Nice ride this morning, finally the sun was out so the coffee ride was well supported - and the coffee was good too.

I have a couple of suggestions that I hope some others will support.

Roll out times - we really need to stick to the set times, a minute or 2 leeway, is OK but today the Terrigal group (me included) missed the rollout from WGS, partly due to a puncture (or 2) but mainly I think due a late rollout (me included again). Not a biggy but one to watch.

Bunch rotation - when swinging off the front its best to do it one rider at a time and on one side only, with the 2nd wheel rider rolling through on the other side. Determine at the outset the rotation direction (clockwise or anti clockwise, it doesn't really matter) but stick to it. Today we had lead riders splitting at the front (at one stage on a narrow stretch of road) meaning the bunch was 4 abreast - not only illegal but also dangerous and simply inconsiderate to the motoring public (with whom we enjoy a tenuous relationship already). This also allows any less experienced riders to build correct bunch riding skills (important at Lucca Rd, Calga or any other race situation) and allows them the chance to ride along side and learn from other more experienced riders.

Signals and calls - please everyone, look after everyone else in the bunch by watching for hazards, knowing the route and giving early and clear signals and calls. Pass these down or up through the bunch. Point with your finger at hazards, use ahnd signals to indicate turning, and use loud clear short calls like HOLE, CAR-RIGHT, CLEAR, CAR-BACK, STOPPING, LIGHTS etc. If 10 people call HOLE then hopefully at least another 10 will be able to avoid it too. On the other hand, if someone sees a hole but doesn't call it, 19 people may hit it.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant or a whinge or a motherhood statement - its not meant to be, it's just my observations on how we can make a great training ride even better.

Agreed Darryl, I was thinking similar things while riding in the bunch.

And Timmmmmm needs new tyres.  Ones that don't puncture.  Tongue

Everyone tells me "Continental GP4000's are great"...... After many flats with the Rubino's, I took the plunge, and managed 2 rides before my first flat on these new "wonderful" tyres...

I'm not sure if maybe my legs have too much power for the tyres, or it could be something to do with the wallys that insist on breaking glass bottles all over the place.

Thanks for the loan tube too Ciaran Smiley

Maxxis refuse is the answer. I race on them, train on them and ride indoor trainer on them. They are a bit slower but you won't flat.

Michelin Pro3 are good.

All tyres get flats, though.

I had two flats on the MTB commuter this week with RIBMOs. But it was very wet and that seems to cause more flats.
