Just noticed a New Member ... Andy AKA The Man.
Is that a different person to Andy AKA Stumpy. This is really confusing. Smiley

Hiya - Andy here,

As far as I am aware I am not also known as ‘Stumpy’, but you never know what is said when your back is turned….  Huh

Long time coastie, lurker on your threads for the past year or two on and off so I guess it’s time for a short intro… I’m mid 30’s, living in East Gosford, work in Gosford.

Like most, lived on my BMX/mountain bike as a kid but forgot about bikes in my early 20’s.  ‘Found’ them again when living in the UK about 6-7 years ago.  Spent many a Saturday on English bridle trails and country roads exploring the place.

Returned to the coast a couple of years ago and bought myself a half decent mountain bike from Dan at Pushy Galore in about 2009 … Dan will know that once every few months since then I have been in looking at entry level road bikes and around 4-5 weeks ago I put a deposit on a Scott S20 as my entry level roadie….(its my birthday in a few weeks so thought I’d finally bite the bullet. Plus I figure the days are getting longer from here on in and spring is just around the corner – so what better a time to be getting a new bike?)

So that’s about it from me unless there are any questions?

Over time I’d like to get used to the new bike get a few kms under my belt, perhaps meet a few like minded people for a ride here and there.

I’ve heard you have coffee rides on weekends from West Gosford, around Ettalong/Woy Woy way and back through West Gosford for coffee in Terrigal? I’ve also heard it’s a pretty mean pace unless the serious riders are away at other events?? So you probably won’t see me there for a while.

I’d like to join the CCC club – even if I never race – I find its always good to support your sports/interests.

Greetings & Salutations AndyTheMan,

Our website used to indicate that weekend coffee rides used to average around 28km/h. This has been deleted recently (probably by one of those fast riders you are referring to). By the way, who is responsible for updating the website? Wink You don't need to answer this one Andy.

As a one time regular coffee ride participant, my ride stats always indicated an average speed of between 28 to 30km/h for these weekend rides from Terrigal & return. The morning coffee rides during the week however were a bit quicker as these were faster training rides.

The weekend coffee rides are a great way to meet the regulars and enjoy a ride at an easyish tempo in a bunch (followed by coffee & a chat of course).

Col..

Are you suggesting there is some sort of negative connotation to the nickname "Stumpy" - and I always thought it was a term of endearment!  Huh

Welcome to the forum AndyTheMan - if you're thinking about joining the coffee ride sometime just get in and have a go. Make sure you introduce yourself as a newbie and someone (hopefully with some experience) will guide you through the etiquette of riding in a group.

You'll probably find that after a couple of coffee rides you'll be keen to give racing a try as well.

Hey Col, that's me.  I just had a look over the coffee ride section, it was out of date and is now fixed.

Anything else that needs to be changed just swing me a message and I'll get onto it. Smiley

Oh and welcome to the forums Andy.  Definitely come out on a coffee ride, you'll love it.

Come and give racing a go before the end of the season Andy - in many ways its a gentler/more controlled intro to bunch riding than the coffee ride - less traffic, no lights and there's plenty of us in D Grade who can help you along.  You'll probably get dropped (I lasted 50m in my first race) but that happened to all of us - many, many of us have exactly the same story as yours.

If nothing else come up to Calga at 2.00pm and suss us out - you'll be welcome.
