I will be there, just look for the big guy in B grade (div1) huffing and puffing with lots of slobber at the back of the pack desperately trying not to be dropped.

anyone else going can organise through this thread and we can get a big bunch to head up there and take their cash as suggested

I know Mick had pencilled a Xmas "Mystery Crit" in on the 18th & was going to confirm. If this is a go then I'll be supporting CCCC at Lucca Rd.

No mystery crit this Sunday. It'll be Steel River and/or an endurance ride - still thinking about a route.

This morning's HDCC Steel River Crit report:

Let me start by saying this is a great circuit to race on. Fast laps & breakneck speed cornering.

A handful of CCCC riders made the trip up. The likes of Mick C, Nick Y, Greggy M, Adam (AMK) & Moi were seen amongst Newcastle's best.

Div 1
A great spectacle with the ever imposing Mick Curran handing out a massive dose of "this is how you dominate & win a race"!

Mick was of course in the break after 1 lap with a Waki Lexus team mate & a couple of other riders, & the pace was on. Greggy bridged across solo to the leaders, assessed the situation & dropped back to the chasing pack.

A number of breaks went throughout the race, with Mick in every single one & I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he instigated every attack.

About two thirds through the race, Mick was away on his own for a number of laps, hands draped comfortably over the bars, looking like he was on a casual training ride. Meanwhile, Nick & Greggy were comfortably sitting in the pack that was shelling riders out the back.

With 3 laps to go, the pace got even hotter with 30 plus riders in single file trying to hold wheels.

Up the final incline the pace was ballistic, with Mick & team mate Dane leading into the final corner having stretched the field & created significant gaps.

Mick took a comfortable 1st, with Dane 2nd.

Nick & Greggy finished comfortably in the main field.

Div 2
A more sedate race by comparison at an ave of 39kph for 30 minutes. Only one CCCC representative, namely me. Fast & technical, averaging over 40kph until the 3 laps to go signal. Slowed to a snail's pace & took off again on the final lap. Some young whipper snappers got the jump on the field up the last incline into the final corner, & having to go wide into the corner I was unable to finish any better the 4th. Previous CCCC member Kodie Howard finished in 5th.

All in all a good morning out & would recommend this course to try in future.

Glad you thought so Col, give me Calga or West Head any day!
Burnt off after 4 laps, very embarassing. Back to Lucca for some more cornering work!

No wonder I have never managed to stay on when I have done this race.

A pity, as this is my absolute favourite course.  Just need competition that is my level.
