From my observation and use of the track a few weeks ago, it really isn't in good enough condition to race on. The dip in the track just after turn 4 seems deeper (although Whitey assures me it isn't) and water and debris seems to collect there long after the rest of the track has dried out. Also, when they resurfaced the infield they seem to have made almost a curb and gutter like jump between the track in the infield grass. On the whole I think it's fine for training on but I would have reservations about full blown racing on it until someone does something to make it a bit more fixie friendly. Bill

Hi Guys, please be mindfull of expressing opinions here re "suitability or otherwise of track for full blown racing" this could easliy be interpreted by council and stop our racing due to liability issues. As an example some years ago we asked council to repair a section of the track as it was "dangerous" cracks running generally in the direction of racing on the pole line between 10mm and 50mm wide, the council solution to this was to repaint the "pole line / measuring line" around this section which satisfied councils' concern but left the competitors weaving up and down the track, it was some years afterwards that this was rectified. Whilst approaches to council may hasten repairs our experience has shown that it's budget driven rather than user driven.

Personally, I completed a track session a couple of weeks back and I would have no hesitation in recommending it safe for "full blown racing"..... see disclaimer below Smiley

Importantly, in cycling it should always remain the decision of each user / participant to assess the risk based on their own common sense and experience, be it track, road or whatever.

Having used the track a couple of times recently I thought I would add to the thread.

Firstly, I believe the track is not ready for regular competition as the carpark is still closed at the netball courts due to resurfacing (as at last Saturday) and concurring with the comments above regarding the difference between the infield grassed area and the track surface there is problems with water "pooling" at the edge at each end of the home straight leading to debris being left behind after rain. There is also some star pickets at the edge near the ambulance gate where the edge is at it's worst. This is a result of the running track now being level which exaggerates the dip in the bitumen of the track (as mentioned). These pickets remain a hazard to riders taking the sprint line close to the edge at speed.

Once these hazards have been removed or resolved then I guess competition can resume.

When is anybody's guess  Huh
