Central Coast Cycling Club Track Racing
Adcock Park, West Gosford NSW Australia
11 Jan 2012 week 1

After a lengthy layoff due to the council’s hefty upgrades to the facility, it was clear that the expense and wait was well worth it, with the benefits clear for all to see.  Roll Eyes

Congratulations to the promoted riders from Junior Development and those who have stepped up a division for 2012. With a couple of the big hitting A graders not riding, multiple national junior champion Travis Smedley was by far the best performed rider winning every event, he was even saved potential defeat in the Italian Pursuit when the rain began to fall.

However the heart stopping and in fact leg-stopping moments of the night has to go to two new riders (Greg Moeller and Mark Lynch) who both experienced the wakeup call you receive when you stop pedalling. Mark was able to conceal his error to only the trained eye, However poser Greg ensured everyone saw his rear wheel lift off the ground across the line.

I will try and put together a program for the remaining months of the season

Just noted that; Damon Marshall bettered the U15's 1 lap TT record.  Unfortunately this result will not stand as I  think two timers were not present.
I note that some of the girls are drawing close to the records as well, please remember to nominated when you are attempting a record.

I have attached the records to this post; please email me if you spot an error.

There was a 2nd timer - it was Sue Marshall but I don't what time Sue had. Unfortuantely for Damon I think it doesn't count but I am sure he can tick that one off in the next week or 2 and maybe the 500 tt too - maybe the week after States?

First Draft of 2012 program is done

I have tried to dance around State and National championships to get a best fit
Please identify any issues.

Club Championships are Week 9
The Carl Cup will be announced shortly but will only affect the Handicap round on the day it runs (to a 4 lap)
Last three weeks points go double

CCCC Track Racing
Week 2
18  January  2012

This week’s Carl Cup
•   The Carl Cup is an annual event embedded in the history of CCCC track cycling
•   This is the 10th year it has been running
•   Past winners include Kodie Howard, Matt Brown, Paul Shaw, Mick Curran x 2, Ron Lloyd, Leigh Mitchell, Brad Scarfe and Yours truly
•   Interesting fact about the Carl Cup, Carl has never qualified to race it.
•   This has been in his 8 attempts to do so ?
•   Rumour has it that 2012 will again be unkind to the former CCCC rider as he will be in attendance with no bike unless someone lends him one (59cm).

2007/8 winner Paul Shaw on his way to beating Brad Craft and Scott Tweedie

Pauly living it up

*  2010/11 Kodie Howard
•   2009/10 Mick Curran
•   2008/9  Matt Brown
•   2007/8  Paul Shaw
•   2006/7  Mick Curran
•   2005/6  Paul Craft
•   2004/5  Brad Scarfe
•   2003/4  Leigh Mitchell
•   2002/3  Ron Lloyd

PS. Kodie you need to bring the trophy!

How the Carl Cup works
•   You need to Qualify for the Carl Cup, so here is how you do it.
•   Round 1’s Warm up scratch race
•   All you have to do is finish in the top half of your bunch in the scratch race. A minimum of 5 per grade will qualify.

So here is an example using recent attendance patterns

•   A Grade 9 riders = 5 to Qualify
•   B Grade 6 riders = 5 to Qualify
•   C Grade 14 riders = 7 to Qualify

Total for final = 17

Point score
This week being one of the highlights of the year, the point score is a little different.
•   All Participants score 5 points
•   All finalist in the Carl Cup score a bonus 2 points
•   The winner of the Carl Cup Scores 8 points
•   Place getters receive 2nd 6 points 3rd 4 points 4th 3 points 5th 2 points 6th 1 point
•   So Claim your places (including 5th and 6th)
•   The non Carl Cup handicap (for non qualified riders) salvages 3 points for 1st and 2 / 1 point for 2nd/ 3rd
•   Riders will of course score standard points in round 4’s Points Race  being an even week

Handicaps are different too
•   Your handicap will be stipulated below and will be independent of your CCCC handicap.

The 10th running of the annual Carl Cup took place this week with a Stella field of 50+ track riders (33 seniors) Carl managed to make the trip from Mudgee to watch over proceedings in Eddy Merckx fashion.

The hardest thing for the eventual winner Geoff Morris was indeed to Qualify. The A grade Scratch Race (Qualifier) was an absolute cracker with a blanket finish for the top 5. Speedster Michael Mellish lead out and finished in the unlucky 6th position not to make the Carl Cup Final.

In the final Geoff had the luxury of being the out-maker of the A graders and easily latched onto the backmarker of the B grade group. This proved to be his ticket to victory as the remaining A graders spent several laps and energy to join the leading group. Into the final ½ lap Geoff lead out whilst fellow A grader (last year’s Champion) Kodie Howard managed to catch the rear wheel of the eventual winner but could advance no further.

Amongst the entire fan fair Geoff maintained a cool composure whilst accepting the prize money and trophy. He made the traditional vow to return in 2013 and not to lose the trophy (note this cup/ trophy/ shield has been lost no less than three times). The remainder of the night despite impressive with three new track records, was a major step down in excitement from the pinicle of the CCCC calendar.  Despite this Geoff managed one more solid victory in the massively long “all-in Miss’n’Out Handicap”
