It’s the time of year for the Track Athletes to show what their made of  Smiley

The National titles are in Adelaide from the 26th to 29th January and are a stepping stone to the London 2012 Olympics for the Elite cyclists and to the Junior World Championships for the Junior 19’s.

Locally we have Cass Kell & Nick Yallouris representing Cycling NSW

Cass, a multiple NSW and Australian representative will compete in the elite women Sprint and Keirin events and hopefully with Kaarle McCulloch (world champ and record holder in the women’s team sprint) in the Team Sprint.

Nick will be linning up in his first National Track Titles in an extremely competitive JM19 category. The Kilo, Individual pursuit, Team pursuit and Scratch Races are all within Nick's abilities and we'll just have to wait to see which events he will be selected for.

So good luck Cass and Nick, have a successfull competition and we'll look forward to some great performances, PB’s and stories  Smiley

BTW you should be able to follow the championships on http://www.cycling.org.au/?ID=45101

Silver for Cass & Kaarle in the Womens Team Sprint against pretty tough competition in Anna Meares who is now a 27 times national champion Shocked

Results for Womens Sprint appear incomplete but it seems Cass may have missed the semis after qualifying 4th fastest. All the best in the Keiren starting tomorrow Cass.

Bronze for Nick in the U19 Teams Pursuit. Not sure if Nick has another event, possibly the scratch race tonight?

Looks like Cass did not present for the 3rd heat (decider) in the Quarter final. I hope she is ok. She now records a final result of 8th

With the lack of top level form by our u19 sprinters I would be putting Nick in the Kierin, as I think he could make the final. If he made the final he could ride a team tactic of going long with Beazley or Reece on his wheel. This would be far more benefit to the NSW sprinters than their current options. Of course this is not going to happen and with Tirian and Calab in Stella form I doubt Nick will get another ride at these championships.

Just noted Nick may get to ride anchor in teamsprint

Best of luck to Cass in the Kierin.

Notice the 2 World Champions and World Record Holders holding the trophy for the Victorian U19 TP in the previous post !

Anyway…. the NSW U19 TP with Nick Yallouris qualified 3rd in 4.17.672 but failed to make the gold medal ride by 1.5 secs.  The boys will be ruing the missed opportunity for a silver medal as they rode a 4.14.491 (3.2 seconds quicker) to take the bronze.

Some consolation is the fact that the 2nd NSW ride was the second fastest U19 time of the competition, only outdone by the Victorian team which included the rainbow clad duo.

Hopefully Nick’s performances at Nationals thus far will put him on the radar of the high performance teams and programs out there!

He certainly has the ability, he just needs the right environment to make the most of it. Congratulations, Nick Smiley

I think Nick just picked up another Bronze in the Team Sprint.

I know NSW won the medal, and Nick told me a few days ago he was one of the 3. So, putting those 2 things together......
