Hello Everyone

I am starting a thread here to keep all interested women in touch with the up coming Womens Cycle Skills Program.

Everyone is welcome to create a profile here on Impact and get involved (you don't need to be a club member).

I am currently working out some further logistics and hope to come back to you very soon with an update.  I will be using this forum as a means of communication.

This initiative will be a great opportunity for women already involved in the club, be it mums, partners and wives, and women of all ages and abilities on the coast interested in learning how to ride, or taking their riding skills to another level.

The Central Coast Cycling Club is a friendly and social network, including children, women and men, from novice to elite.

So, we invite you to become involved.  We'll keep you posted.

Maybe not exactly correct in this particular section, may be of interest to many of you girls though. The latest newsletter on cyclingnsw, http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/Files/Newsletter/2008/May/Issue154.htm has an article on the opportunity for a women's only, come and try track at Dunc Grey Velodrome,  for those aged 30+.

Well Everyone, the time has finally arrived!!!
The Womens Skills Course is on this Sunday.

We have 24 confirmed registered participants ranging in varying ability levels.

The day is set to be filled with valuable information and practical skills.

We have some excellent speakers joining us including Dan Cleary from Pushy Galore (a very generous supporter), Allan Brown from Gosford Council (who has been a wealth of knowledge and support in putting this first course together), and Nicolette Rowe (who is kindly giving up her own time to go through Training and Nutrition with us.)

Our skills coaches and volunteers are locked in and keen to see that all participants practical needs are met.

The club is about to have a lot more women in the fold! Yay!

So, wish us luck and good weather and stay tuned to see how the day went.

From my perspective it was great.  Volunteers were awesome (and very patient!)  Speakers were great and the skills team a credit to the club.  The participants?  Well we seriously had the loveliest "bunch" of women.  Will give a full debrief tomorrow.  Now it is time to relax....was up at 3.50am this morning with nerves (and a sick baby)!!!!  Ah the joys!

OK so I have about 20 activation messages that went to spam that confirms that my "womens skills" dont lie in the Computer area....

Just wanted to say Thankyou to Louise and everyone who helped out today.  I have been to the Gear Up Girls session in Sydney and it did not begin to compare to what you guys pulled off today.

My only concern was with the Nutrition/training "expert" that you had lecturing today.  I have re-read the notes that she gave us  and I can not find the section on alcohol or chocolate consumption... surely it is a mistake... it should lie somewhere between the bread cereal and fruit/vegetable section in that pyramid/table right?  Great lecture Nicolette.

I think the difference today was in the practical skills session.... now I know how to get that chain back on without stopping... thanks Jock

Cheers

Kane will learn that you should never take a nurse seriously....  and I am not sure whether it is chocolate or shiraz that are highest in my pyramid of essential food groups... probably liberal amounts of both.   Thanks again Louise, you Desrae and the club were great.  Will see you at the first organised ride.

If any girls are interested I am going to the womens track introduction day at ?Duncan Gray in July.  This day was mentioned by one of they guys earlier in the Womens discussion threads.  I think it might be on the weekend of the 26th.  They are providing hire bikes to women that dont have a track bike.  I had better lay off the chocolate or its suspension will never be the same again....hmmm dont think track bikes have suspension but I am sure you get my drift...

I really wanted to do that.   Saw it on the Spoke n Wheel e-newsletter but I probably won't be quite ready.  Having surgery Wednesday week and Im told will take 4-6 weeks recovery....total bummer.
(BTW, Kane knew you were a nurse anyway... he's been with a few in his time  Wink Wink Wink Wink

Oh, and Im sure the other girls on this forum hear you on the chocolate and red!!!  (of which I am consuming as I type!!)

Thanks for your feedback too.

The info is here: http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/Files/News/2008/May/News858.htm  You might want to check the type of licence that is required to attend this session.  I remember seeing somewhere else that a full racing licence is required, but I am getting old and senile.
