There's been a suggestion that we might organise a combined ride with the lads from Peleton Sports early in 2008. It would follow a similar theme to Stumpy's Sunday rides except with 20-40 guys in white, red and blue. They might race funny, but they sure know how to organise a top social ride. Cast your vote so we can get a feel for the level of interest and then post a summary of the route you reckon the ride should take. Ride routes should incorporate at least one climb with space for people to regroup at the top and a place to stop for an extended coffee at the end. The coffee shop needs to be able to cater for a decent number of riders and serve carmel lattes and creme brulee for those who pose for the wrong magazine. NOTE: it will be a mandatory requirement that CCCC riders wear the CCCC kit on this type of ride, no exceptions.

Here's some suggested routes just to kick off discussion: - west gosford to peats ridge then meet at calga back to peats ridge, somersby, coffee and laughs near the ferry, then home via agreed route(s)
- west gosford to (meet at) berowra, bobbin head, akuna bay, church point, coffee near the ferry at palm beach, then home via agreed route(s)

Going by the numbers that you are getting for the training rides Jock, if a combined ride does get up, you are going to have to seriously split the bunches... You have the potential for 60-80 riders...

Option 2 looks good to me too but tell me where is the ferry at Somersby as listed in option one Actually the peloton bunch I 've seen sometimes numbers 70 or more. If we get 30+ riders they will have to stop the traffic going through the tight bit coming out of Church Pt I think it is. Do we have a member of the Police in our club. They could ride in their uniform at the rear or front and sort out the motorists.

For safety reasons the combined ride will have a cap on rider numbers, and riders who want to join in the fun will need to be able to keep up with a bunch riding at A/B club level pace the whole way.
As we've seen on a number of CCCC club rides most of the C Graders are more than capable of joining in the fun. D graders and unknown/non CCCC riders are almost certain to miss the cut.
It has to be said that there will be at least three climbs of 4km at 4-5% and a sting in the tail if we adopt the Palm Beach route. I'll be buggered if I'm pushing anyone up PITS and out of Bobbin Head and out of Akuna Bay. I'm old and getting tired. The climbs are where I'm supposed to get my rest.
PS. the ferry at somersby is actually at Ettalong/patonga. I thought tha would have been obvious to coasties. Maybe too much rarified air today Chicken man?

Sorry Jock I should have known. After all Patonga is just a mere hill climb away from Somersby. Piece of cake for me , I'm old and getting tired. The climbs are where I'm supposed to get my rest.
Not so easy for the older riders of course

I don't know if too many of you have given much thought as to how we will get to the chosen meeting point if we do the Palm Beach ride. With the old Pathetic Hwy being closed off it is likely we'll have to careen across Mooney Ck bridge, ride the long way around via Peats Ridge or jump on a train to take us from Woy Woy to Brooklyn. I don't think the Mooney Ck bridge option is sane or safe. For the train option we would need to leave West Gosford at 5:50am to make it in time for the 6:20am train out of Woy Woy. Arrives in Brooklyn at 6:35am. Fares are $3.80 for adults, $1.90 for students and pensioners, bikes free. Unfortunately we can't do the route backwards because the ferries don't run until 9:30. Any other ideas?

What's happened to the Mooney ck Bridge The one on the freeway. You know the one. 110-140kmh traffic, no verge, 70m drop to the bottom, long bastid climb on the other side.
