Good news Al. Each lap is only 8 km which means there are 33% fewer potholes than a 12 km lap Grin.

BTW not sure how many laps for each grade but I'd expect 5 for C & D grade.

PS for Callum. I reckon you can take the D grade win without a lead out man if you read the race correctly and don't go too early in the sprint. It is 700 m from the last corner to the finish so work out before the race where the 200 m point is and go from there. And be near the front at the hot dog EVERY lap or you will miss the split.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just not too confident in my sprinting abilities - I'll be giving it my all though.

Also does anyone need a lift tomorrow? I have a spare seat/roof rack. leaving from Point Clare.

Plenty of orange in the sea of 150 riders, but there could have been plenty more!  Whitey, Kraussy and a few others with top ten positions.  Best performers were Callum who got 2nd in C Grade followed by Kane who got done by the photo-finish judges in the bunch sprint for third, and Matty Brown 3rd in B Grade.

Other than that there wasn't much to speak of.  Plenty of happy riders after the race though, including Hodgee who finished without puncturing and having to walk the glass mile.   It was noted that noone punctured (that anyone saw) and noone DNFed.  Probably a first for a CD race, especially at Kooragang!

Unfortunately I only got second in D grade.  Sad I need much more experiance.

I agree was a great morning!

Must note: I think the camera set up (video footage of finish) looked interesting. Something I think would get a lot of interest in our club. I might have a look into camera setups and how it could be mounted to say my car.

Great results guys! Would have loved to have had a go but the fat tyre racing called! On that subject, its good to see a few new faces from the road ranks giving it a go.. even if they did steal the win in the B grade Wink

nothing "smarter" about it, all comes down to having the legs on the uphill bits  :'( It'll be interesting when the laptimes get published. However, its great to see some guys giving it a crack!

I’m a tad late but I know you've all been waiting my report Roll Eyes

My first CD C grade event & 40 other riders for company, good stuff.

The wind factor added a bit of spice to a flat track. The little rise up the on ramp near the bridge was the only place you headed unsheltered into the breeze. The jockeying to keep off the front here was rather obvious with the pace slowing as you entered the bend with the hope someone else would go to the front. Umm, I fell in the trap…once!

The left turn with the wind at the roundabout had everyone in overdrive after the easy pace through the witches’ hats. I learnt by the second lap you needed to start accelerating before the bend or run the risk of loosing contact. This did happen to an orange rider who would normally have been more attentive. I constantly tried to keep from the wind by staying on the sheltered side of the pack. This meant spending some time in the gutter whenever heading south. A bit precarious at times but worth the risk.

As we approached the bell I found myself caught on the left side which had me fighting the cross wind. By the time I realised the last rider had passed me I was several metres off the back. I’m thinking ‘don’t panic’ the pack will slow for the on ramp as it has every lap. I wasn’t disappointed.

The last lap I edged my way closer to the front & with about 150m till the finish I could see Kane, Steely & Guy just in front of me. I crossed the line 20 metres behind the leaders. I’m happy with that.
