Most of you would know Andrew Burne (Bicisport) or have ridden against him at Dunc Grey. If you couldn't beat him maybe this is why!  I have noticed how bulked up he has become and his speed and strength have been much improved. Found this on a Melbourne newspaper website.

AUSTRALIAN Masters cyclist Andrew Burne has received a two-year ban from Cycling Australia after testing positive to steroids.

Burne was tested by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority at the World Track Masters Championships in Sydney last October and returned a positive result for nandrolone and drostanolone.

The sanction means Burne forfeits all results, medals and prizes collected from the date of the offence, including three golds won and an Australian record set at the 2008 Masters event.

Burne, who waived his right to a hearing, will be ineligible to participate in any professional Australian sport as an athlete or support person until December 17, 2010.

Now I wonder if they will get the one everyone has been talking about? It's a shame, maybe they didn't test at the Aussies!  Lips sealed

I've known Andrew since he was just a skinny 250lb weakling.  Sad news to be sure, but brilliant that he got busted.

I have known about Andrew's positive for almost three months now, but this is the first time I had seen it in print. On a lighter note, this now means Glen, Mick and Michael now score the Silver in the NSW Team Sprint Championships.

Yeah, but what about 2007..?
I can think of at least three CCCC 4th places which should have been bronze medals...  Angry

Its a credit to cyclists who keep fronting up for events knowing their are cheaters involved and robbing genuine contenders of placings.

We dont get it so much in showjumping. Cheque books dictate if you will place or not  Undecided

Don't know how you guys do it. All that work to get robbed. I guess its great theyre tryingto catch them.

It's all quite sad really, especially when you read the interview below. Surely if you thought you would place in the world titles you would expect to get tested !!

•   Andrew can only be disqualified from events he participated in after his positive test, which was on Oct 14 2008.
•   Yes he knew he would be tested. However being tested is like playing Russian roulette, they have to test for the drug being used. More often than not they are not testing for the specific drug the athletes are on.
•   ASAD (information current in 2007, may have changed) only test for Steroids and Stimulants.
•   Having said this, nandrolone is one of the more commonly tested drugs and when tested for, easy to detect.

I'm sure his mates in the Team Sprint would be happy, or were they in on it too?

I think there are plenty of dressage horses and showjumpers out there regularly competing on Bute and Rakelin.... cheating is in all sports.

In most past cases of a World Champions who have been found positive post World Title they have not returned the jersey. This is because there was no proof of use of drugs prior to their positive result.

However in the cases of Jerome Chiotti 1996 world MTB champion and David Miller World Road TT champion 2003, they both returned the jersey. (both found to have used drugs to win title)
In fact Jerome presented his rainbow jersey to Thomas Frischknecht (in person) who crossed the line in second place. This occurred May 2000 some 4 years after the event.
In both cases, despite comebacks, neither rider was eligible to use the rainbow bands on sleeves.
So to put it simply the answer is yes! However if he co-operates is up to him. Bags not being the one who goes to his house to get it off him.........then again, what would he do with it now anyway? ?  ?
